EUREKA, Ill. – Spalding women's volleyball traveled to Eureka College on Saturday. SU took the win 3-0.
SU moved to 12-13 (9-6 SLIAC), while Eureka fell to 4-17 (4-11 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
The Red Devils came out on fire, taking an early 11-6 lead. A service ace by
Halle Calbert got the ball rolling for SU.
Abigail Ratts,
Brianna Terpening,
Jayda Branch, and
Brooks Watson each tallied kills for the Golden Eagles. This gave SU their first lead of the set, 16-14. Eureka kept getting errors, pushing SU ahead 22-17.
Presley Hagan joined in on the fun, grabbing a kill of her own. SU remained in control of this set, winning 25-22.
The second set began as a heated battle, as the score hit 8-8.
Jobi Smith, Hagan, and Branch each tallied kills, giving SU an advantage in the set, 17-13. Once again, Spalding maintained control of this set, keeping the Red Devils five points away from them. The Golden Eagles took set two, 25-20.
Emily Jaggers opened the third set with a service ace for the Golden Eagles. This set matches any of the three sets, being a battle by both squads. The score reached 15-15, and the Golden Eagles can feel victory. A kill by Watson gave SU a 5-0 run, making it 20-15. Errors hurt the Red Devils towards the end of this set. Spalding took set three, 25-19.
