LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's basketball hosted Defiance College on Saturday. SU took the win 69-61.
The Golden Eagles moved to 1-0 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2.
TURNING POINT
It was a battle to begin the first half. Six minutes into the game, both teams were tied at 11. Defiance went on a 8-2 run to extend the lead, 19-13. A monstrous dunk by
Devonte McCampbell pushed the momentum to SU. SU took the lead back, 24-21.
Caden Bradford and
Andre Crawford joined in on the scoring to keep Spalding ahead, 31-23.
Anthony Dillard contributed on the offensive end, racking up some rebounds and points. The Golden Eagles took the lead into the half, 39-29.
Jacoby Johnson got things rolling for SU to begin the second half. Johnson scored a contested layup in the paint to push Spalding ahead, 41-29. Dillard continued to put on a scoring display as he hit a layup plus the foul. SU continued their run and extended their lead to 50-36. The Yellow Jackets did not give up, as they fought back, 52-49 in favor of SU. Dillard, McCampbell, and Crawford all came up clutch for the Golden Eagles. Each of them tallied points to push Spalding past Defiance, 69-61.
