Men's Soccer grabs back-to-back SLIAC Wins

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's soccer hosted SLIAC opponent Lyon on Thursday. SU grabbed the win, 2-1.

SU moved to 5-3-2 (2-0 SLIAC) on the season, while the Fighting Scots fell to 3-5-2 (1-1 SLIAC).

TURNING POINT
The first half began with both teams fighting for another SLIAC win. Lyon and SU each tallied shots on each other early in this one. With shots by both sides, neither team could find the back of the net. Lyon tallied eight shots, but Micah Mattes made some huge saves to keep it 0-0. SU and the Fighting Scots went into the half scoreless.

As the second half started, you could feel the SLIAC rivalry growing. A total of 19 fouls were called during this match. Just 15 minutes into the half, the Golden Eagles struck first. A pass by Mustafa Almohammedawi led to Eddie Mendez-Perez. Mendez-Perez hit the left side of the net and put SU ahead, 1-0. For the next 20 minutes, Spalding kept the pressure on Lyon and their keeper. When the clock hit 10 minutes left in the match, SU found the back of the net again. Forte Bess tallied the goal off of Almohammedawi's second assist of the match. Lyon followed with an answer of their own just six minutes later. This wasn't enough as the referee blew his whistle. SU took the win, 2-1.
