Men's Soccer rallies at Legacy Fields

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's soccer hosted SLIAC opponent Greenville University at Legacy Fields on Wednesday evening. SU dominated all aspects of the game, taking home a 5-1 victory over the Panthers.

Spalding returned to the win column and improved their record to 7-5-2 (4-2 SLIAC). Greenville fell to 5-6-3 (3-1-1 SLIAC) on the season.

TURNING POINT
The first half started with a goal in just under 10 minutes. The Panthers grabbed an early 1-0 advantage in the SLIAC matchup. Spalding, like Michael Jordan in The Last Dance, took this personally. In the 24th minute, Forte Bess tallied the equalizer. Bess netted the goal off an assist by Eddie Mendez-Perez. This gave the Golden Eagles some momentum. Nine minutes later, Mendez-Perez grabbed his own goal while Oliver Frankenfeld tallied his second assist of the season. Just as SU took the lead, they did not stop there. Benit Mulume scored his first goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 advantage heading into the half.

Opening the second half, Spalding was feeling it. At the 66th-minute mark, Mustafa Almohammedawi joined the scoring column. Almohammedawi netted a goal with an assist from Ethan Eckert. This gave SU a more significant lead, 4-1. Everyone thought the game was over, but it wasn't just yet. With 12 minutes remaining in the game, Mulume tallied his second goal. This gave him his second goal in just 27 minutes of action. Spalding easily took the win, 5-1.
