Women's Volleyball takes down the Owls, 3-1

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Spalding women's volleyball traveled to Fontbonne University and beat SLIAC opponent MUW on Saturday, 3-1.

SU moved to 7-11 (4-4 SLIAC) on the season, while the Owls fell to 2-12 (0-9 SLIAC).

TURNING POINT
Jobi Smith got the Golden Eagles rolling with a kill to begin the first set. This boosted SU to a 4-0 early lead. The Owls fought back into the game as the scoreboard hit 10-9 in favor of Spalding. Three straight errors and a kill by Ella Clark pushed the Golden Eagles ahead 18-13. From here on out, SU controlled the remainder of this set winning, 25-18.

It was an identical start to the second set as it was to the first. SU took an early 4-0 lead. Presley Hagan, Jayda Branch, and Clark all tallied kills to keep Spalding ahead of the Owls, 11-7. Abigail Ratts joined in on the fun with a kill of her own. This plus a lot of errors by MUW allowed the Golden Eagles to take this set, 25-13.

The Owls came out seeking revenge to begin the third set. MUW tallied an 8-1 run to open the set. The Golden Eagles tried their best to get back into this one, but the Owls dug deep and pulled out the set with a win, 25-12. 

Kills by Clark, Branch (twice), Ratts, and four errors allowed SU to start the fourth set on a 9-0 run. This gave the Golden Eagles full momentum of the match as the score hit, 17-8. MUW went on a run of their own, but it just wasn't enough as SU took the last set, 25-16.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES NEXT FOR SPALDING
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 16th at Columbia Gym. SU will host Berea College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
