Men's Basketball grab back-to-back SLIAC victories

ELSAH, Ill. – On Thursday, Spalding men's basketball traveled to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent Principia College. The Golden Eagles defeated the Panthers 72-62.

SU moved to 7-8 (6-3 SLIAC), while Principia fell to 4-12 (3-6 SLIAC) on the season.

TURNING POINT
To begin the first half, Devonte McCampbell made a tough layup to get the basket and the foul. McCampbell got SU on the board first with the old-fashioned three-point play. This pushed Spalding ahead early, as Caden Bradford followed up with a more modern three-pointer of his own to extend the lead, 6-0. The Golden Eagles maintained control of the majority of the first half until the Panthers went on a run of their own, tying it, 26-26. It was a back-and-forth battle to end the first half. Spalding took the lead into halftime, 34-33.

It was a good start to the second half for the Golden Eagles as Crawford got SU on the board first with a driving layup. This sparked a quick 8-0 run for Spalding as they built a comfortable lead, 42-33. It did not take long for the Panthers to get back into this game with an 8-0 run of their own. A three-pointer by Dominic Sanders extended the Golden Eagles' lead to seven with 12 minutes remaining. Spalding kept control for the rest of the game and maintained a comfortable lead. SU takes the win, 72-62
