Zaneiya Batiste put on a show for the Golden Eagles as Spalding took down Blackburn 70-62 in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) clash on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles are now 5-16 overall and 2-8 in the SLIAC. Spalding is one game out of a tie for sixth place with four games left in the regular season. The top six teams make the SLIAC Tournament. The Beavers fell to 2-18 and 0-10 in league play.
TURNING POINT
The shorthanded Golden Eagles squad, with only eight players active, had a tough task ahead of them. It was tight in the first quarter there were three lead changes and four ties.
A 9-0 SU run in the second quarter gave the home team an advantage they held onto for the rest of the game.
Isis Rodgers, who had a career-high six points and eight rebounds in the contest, and
Sydney Raque combined to score all nine points in the run.
Freshman
Zaneiya Batiste shined as she earned a career-best 21-point, 20-rebound double-double. It was the first 20-20 double for Spalding since March 2014. It was also the first 20-rebound performance for the Golden Eagles since 2015.
Spalding earned the win 70-62 to sweep the season series with Blackburn College. Two home and two away games remain in the regular season for the Golden Eagles.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
- Alongside Batiste, Jacie Chesser and Ma'Kaylia Lute scored in double digits. Chesser had 14 points while Lute had 11.
- More career-best performances: Nicole Hollowell had a career-high six rebounds and four assists while Ma'Kaylia Lute had seven assists and five made free throws.
- A total of 36 of Spalding's points came in the paint.
- The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Beavers 55-45.
ARROW SAFETY PLAYER OF THE GAME
Zaneiya Batiste career night netted her a third Arrow Safety Player of the Game award for the season.

Spalding completes the final road swing of the regular season this week. The Golden Eagles travel to Principia for a Thursday matchup at 6:30 p.m. Spalding finishes the trip on Saturday at Westminster at 2 p.m.
