LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday, Spalding men's basketball hosted St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent Eureka. The Golden Eagles defeated the Red Devils 83-68. This is the third consecutive conference win for SU.
SU moved to 3-4 (3-0 SLIAC), while the Red Devils fell to 3-5 (1-2 SLIAC) on the season.
TURNING POINT
SU started the scoring with
Anthony Dillard finding
Andre Crawford. Crawford hit a three with the first shot of the game. This wasn't it for Crawford, as he went on to score the first eight points for the Golden Eagles. Not long after,
Jacoby Johnson hit a beautiful fading mid-range jump shot to extend Spalding's lead, 12-4. The Red Devils fired back with a 20-6 run, which gave Eureka the lead, 24-18. A jump shot by Crawford and a layup by
Devonte McCampbell gave Spalding some momentum and the lead. This sparked an 18-2 run for the Golden Eagles, which made it 36-26. It was a battle to end the first half as Spalding took the lead into the half, 41-32.
The second half was much different from the first. Instead of a game of runs, it was a competitive battle. With Crawford and Dillard scoring back to back, it was hard for the Red Devils to secure a run of their own. The Golden Eagles' defense stood their ground as the game never came within 10 points. SU went on to win this one, 83-68.
