BATESVILLE, Ark. – Spalding women's soccer traveled to Arkansas on Saturday afternoon where they won 3-1 with St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent Lyon College. The result moved Spalding to 3-5-2 (2-2 SLIAC) and the Scots fell to 3-8 (0-5 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
Spalding started the first half strong against Lyon. SU dominated for the majority of the half. With 54% possession and 12 shots for Spalding, in the first half, it was a one-sided game. Right before the halftime whistle, the Golden Eagles finally found the back of the net. In the 44th minute,
Melaney Frick netted the goal for SU.
The second half was still dominant for Spalding. The Golden Eagles came out with the momentum, firing shot after shot. In the 56th minute,
Baeli Young got herself a goal, giving Spalding a comfortable 2-0 advantage. Just six minutes later,
Kelli Bergmark netted her first career SU goal and gave Spalding a 3-0 lead. The Golden Eagles' hope of a shutout got ruined shortly after. In the 68th minute, the Scots received a penalty kick which found the back of the net.
SU held on to secure the victory 3-1.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
- Spalding had a large advantage in both shots (23-6) and shots on goal (8-3).
- Kelli Bergmark netted her first goal of the season.
- The Golden Eagles had more corners than the Scots (4-1).
- SU maintained control of the game with 54% possession.
