LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding women's soccer hosted St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opponent Principia College, where SU won, 3-0. The result moved Spalding to 6-6-3 (5-3-1 SLIAC) and the Panthers fell to 2-12-1 (2-6-1 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
Spalding was showing pure dominance against the Panthers in the first half. The Golden Eagles came out on the attack, putting the pressure on Principia. SU fired 13 shots to begin the half, but couldn't find the back of the net. In the 42nd minute, Spalding earned a corner kick taken by
Faith Rutherford. Rutherford found
Tayler Mahoney in the box, who then headed the ball over to
Melaney Frick. Frick finished off this brilliant play, with a header, to give the Golden Eagles the advantage going into halftime, up 1-0.
The second half was no different from the first, as SU came out wanting this Senior Day victory. The Golden Eagles were applying pressure on the Panthers, which Principia had no answers for. In the 56th minute, Rutherford and Mahoney worked together, once again, to find
Taylor Zebarth in the box to give Spalding a 2-0 advantage. Three minutes later the Golden Eagles found the back of the net once again. Rutherford gained her third assist of the night and
Elle Trentman earned her first when they found
Baeli Young to give the Golden Eagles a comfortable lead. It was smooth sailing from there, as Spalding took this one 3-0.
