LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding volleyball earned a SLIAC win Tuesday against the Principia Panthers to extend their streak to four conference wins in a row.
The Golden Eagles moved to 10-11 overall (7-4 SLIAC) after the win, while the Panthers fell to 0-17 on the season (0-11 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
Spalding jumped out to a hot start going on a 16-4 run, led by
Jayda Branch, who had two service aces. The Golden Eagles were too much to handle in this first set. A couple of errors by the Panthers and a kill by
Halle Calbert helped secure the first set for SU, 25-10.
A service ace by
Ella Clark to begin the second frame set the momentum for the Golden Eagles. Spalding began the set on a 7-2 run. The Panthers pounced back, going on their own run, making it a 9-6 lead for SU. An attack error by Principia and a kill by
Kayla Dunican sparked a little momentum for the Golden Eagles, propelling them to a 17-9 lead. Back-to-back attacks by
Drea White and
Jordyn Sarver helped give Spalding a 21-11 lead. Principia made a run of their own, but it wasn't enough as SU took the set, 25-19.
It was all the Golden Eagles in the final set of this SLIAC matchup. A kill by
Abigail Ratts and a service ace by Branch helped Spalding to a 3-0 start to this frame.
Kendall Mattison tallied on a couple of service aces pushing SU ahead 12-6. The Golden Eagles did not stop there. SU used this momentum to their advantage, easily winning this match and set 25-12.

- Spalding led in almost every team category against Principia. The Golden Eagles led in kills (26-13), aces (14-7), assists (23-11), and digs (43-31).
- Brianna Terpening had 17 digs.
