Baseball takes doubleheader from Principia, 10-0 and 22-4

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team swept the visiting Panthers of Principia College to extend their conference record to 14-3 and 23-13 overall.

Game 1: Spalding 10 - Principia 0
Spalding would strike first in game one as Hunter Strong leads the inning off with a stand up double. Jahlyn McKie would walk and steal second on the pitch as Strong also steals third. Strong would get thrown out at home on a Michael Newsom ground ball to third base. The Golden Eagles would make up for the lost run as McKie would score on the successful stolen base attempt by Newsom who advanced to third on the throwing error by the catcher. With the one-run advantage, Spalding would score two more in the bottom of the third as Jacob Spanyer would lead off with a single and then advance to third on an error by the right fielder. Michael Speck would triple to the left center gap to score Spanyer on the hit. Matthew McDowell would hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Speck who tagged up at third to score. The Golden Eagle pitching staff would continue to blank the Panther offense as Spalding puts up six more runs to take game one, 10-0, in seven innings.

Jacob Spanyer would go a perfect 3-for-3 with 3 runs, an RBI, a walk, and a double while Michael Speck goes 3-for-4 with 3 runs, 3 RBIs, and 2 triples. Wesley Clark gets his fourth win of the season on the bump for Spalding to extend his record to 4-0.

Game 2: Spalding 22 - Principia 4
The Spalding offense would come out swinging in game two as they put up an enormous 9-run inning in the bottom of the second. The Golden Eagles would bat through the lineup as they take the 9-0 lead. SU would not only put up another run in the bottom of the third but would follow it up with a another five-run fourth inning to extend their lead to 15.
