LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team swept the visiting Principia Panthers on senior day. The Golden Eagles remain the #1 seed in the SLIAC East as their record improves to 11-5 in SLIAC play and 18-14 overall.
Game 1: Spalding 17 Principia 0
Erica McMann would pick up her 10
th win of the season for a record of 10-6. The Golden Eagles would put up an eight-run first inning starting with
Rylee Phillips' lead-off double to left field.
Grayce Marcum would follow up with a stand-up triple to right field to score Phillips for the 1-0 lead.
Bella Velez would score Marcum on her ground out to shortstop as
Jessica Tucker moves over to third.
Dawn Wilson would hit an infield single for a two RBI hit as
Allison Nell and Tucker both score for the 4-0 SU lead.
Kailey Reed would hit a triple up the middle to score Miranda Thomas, who reached on a walk, and Wilson to extend the lead to six.
Rylee Phillips would score Reed on her second trip to the box as she singles through the left side. Marcum would reach on an error by the Panther defense as it also scores Phillips. McMann would continue to keep the Principia offense scoreless as the Golden Eagles continue to score. Spalding would walk away with the win, 17-0, as they score 17 runs in five innings.
Rylee Phillips was 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases while
Jessica Tucker goes 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Kailey Reed also goes a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, a triple, three RBIs, and a triple.
Game 2: Spalding 18 Principia 0
The Golden Eagles would score seven runs in the first inning on three hits and two errors. The offensive wouldn't stop there as they score 10 more runs in the second inning to keep a17-0 advantage. The 18
th run would come in the third inning as
Dawn Wilson would single to right center to score Tucker who reached base earlier in the inning.
Jessica Tucker would keep the Panthers scoreless as the Golden Eagles would take the win 18-0 for a senior day sweep.
Dawn Wilson would go 3-for-4 with three runs scored, three RBIs, a double, and a stolen base as
Mimi Carter goes 3-for-4 also with one run scored, an RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Senior
Kailey Reed goes 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Senior Miranda Thomas goes 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBIs, two walks, and a triple.
