LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team overcame a fourth quarter deficit to top Principia, 59-58, Tuesday evening at Columbia Gym. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-11 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
Natalie Fichter led the Golden Eagles with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
Kailey Reed added 7 points, 6 assists and 5 rebouds. While
Mercedez Moore chipped in 8 points.
After falling behind 7-2 to start the game, the Golden Eagles scored eight straight points capped off by a
Meagan Hayden three-pointer to take a 10-7 lead with 4:40 to play and held a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. After a back and forth first few minutes, another Hayden three extended Spalding's lead to six points, but the Panthers were able to trim Spalding's lead back to two heading into the halftime break.
Principia outscored Spalding 12-6 to start the third quarter taking a four-point lead on a jumper by Lydia Klutho, but a pair of
Kailey Reed free throws trimmed the Panther lead to two heading into the final period. The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing by four following another Klutho jumper, but back-to-back jumpers by
Ariyana Rhodes knotted the score at 48 apiece. A Fichter jumer put Spalding up by four with 1:33 to play and
Kamryn McMahon connected on two late free throws to seal the game.
