Women’s Basketball grounds the ThunderHawks

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The Spalding Golden Eagles picked up their second win of the season in an 83-71 victory against Miami University-Middletown.

Spalding women's basketball moves to 2-4 overall, while the ThunderHawks sit at 1-6 after the loss.

TURNING POINT
The Golden Eagles dominated in the first quarter of action, outscoring Miami-Middletown by a margin of 24-8. Natalie Fichter led the scoring charge for Spalding with a season-best 21 points.

The second quarter saw more SU domination. The Golden Eagles held steady and continued to build their lead past the 16 points they were ahead in the first quarter. It was a 20-point margin for Spalding as they went into the half up 42-22.

In the final two quarters, the game was a closer affair. The ThunderHawks cut the lead to nine at the end of the third quarter after outscoring the Golden Eagles by 11 points in those 10 minutes.

Spalding held on to the lead and built it back up to 12 to earn the 83-71 victory on the road.

  • Natalie Fichter's 21 points are the most scored by any Golden Eagles this season.
  • Kailey Reed tied her season-high of four assists in the contest.
  • Reed, Maelyn Ridener, and Mercedez Moore all scored in double digits.

  • Spalding was lights out from deep with a season-high mark of 41.2 percent behind the arch.

Fichter was picked as the Arrow Safety Player of the Game for the third time this season. She lead the team in scoring, rebounds, and minutes played.

The Golden Eagles return to the Bluegrass State for their next two contests. Spalding hosts Berea College on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.
