Elsah, Ill. – The Spalding University women's basketball team traveled to Elsah, Ill. to take on the Principia Panthers where the Golden Eagles break away with the win, 71-56. Spalding improves to 6-8 on the season and 2-1 in SLIAC play.
As Principia started the first quarter on a 6-0 run, the Golden Eagles finally found their rhythm as
Kamryn McMahon got Spalding on the board with a two.
Kailey Reed would give the Golden Eagles the lead on a Panther turnover as she drives into the paint for an easy bucket. Spalding would lead coming out of the half by one as
Natalie Fichter and
Sydney Raque would each hit three pointers. The Panthers would take advantage of Spalding turnovers to take the lead, but a last second three pointer by Fichter would put SU up by four with a score of, 48-44. The Golden Eagles would drive Principia further from the lead at a layup by
Kamryn McMahon put Spalding up by 17, their largest of the night. The Golden Eagles would walk away with the win with a score of 71-56.
Natalie Fichter and
Mercedez Moore both led the team with 15 points apiece as Fichter tallies seven rebounds and five assists while Moore got nine boards.
Maelyn Ridener followed up with 12 points of her own and four rebounds.
