LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team picks up the win against Berea at the J.R. Hoe Invitational to earn their first win of the season.
In the first period, the Mountaineers were able to strike first as a shot found the back of the net in the 25
th minute, giving Berea the lead 1-0. It wasn't long after that Berea made their second goal to put Spalding down by two with 12 minutes left in the half. A foul on Berea allowed the Golden Eagles a free kick taken by
Brayan Castro to reach the net as he fired it around the wall of defenders, cutting the lead in half.
The Golden Eagles came out firing in the second half for a total of 12 shots. It wasn't until the 60
th minute that Spalding lined up a free kick off the foot of
Ahmadou Gueye for a goal and a tie score. The SU offense wouldn't stop there as a corner kick was called that bounced in the box to find
Ramon Adil for Spalding's third goal. The fourth and final goal for the Golden Eagles was a long ball that cleared the defenders and found the back of the net shot by
Coen Beach. Despite earning a goal on a penalty kick, the Spalding defense was no match for the Mountaineers giving SU their first win, 4-3.
The Golden Eagles will return to the field Sunday, September 5
th at 7:30 pm ET against Centre College to wrap up the J.R. Hoe Invitational.
