ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Spalding men's soccer team stormed past Fontbonne, 4-2, to earn their first SLIAC win of the season Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 2-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles attack was led by
Chadrack Mulondani. The junior midfielder scored a pair of goals and assisted on another.
Trevor Massa (2-4-1) earned the win tallying six saves on the day.
Spalding jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Mulondani found the back of the net for his first goal of the game in the 21
st minute off a cross into the box by
Luc Cesar. Ten minutes later,
Ahmadou Gueye would head a ball in off a feed from Mulondani to make it two nil in the 31
st minute. Fontbonne's Blake Ruffino got the Griffins on the board in the 35
th minute cutting Spalding's lead to one, but
Coen Beach answered in the 40
th to push Spalding's lead back to two goals heading into the halftime break. A Tanner Harris goal in the 53
rd minute got the Griffins to within a goal again, but Mulondani shut the door with a goal in the 84
th to secure the win.
