LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University volleyball team lost to Hanover College in their home opener in three sets.
The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead to open the first set. As the set continued, the Panthers would jump out to an 18-15 lead on a 4-0 run. Hanover would eventually take the first set 25-21.
The Panthers would strike first in the second set taking the lead 2-0. The Hanover offense was too much for the Golden Eagles as the Panthers held a 13-2 lead scoring 10 straight points. The Panthers would then take the second straight set 25-9.
Although the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, the Golden Eagles would answer back with five points to inch them within one point. The Golden Eagles then tied the set at 20 with a kill by freshman
Jayda Branch. Despite the offensive effort, the Panthers would take the third and final set 25-20.
Samantha Robison and
Hannah Holland led the team in kills with seven and nine as Robison finished the match with a .462 hitting percentage.
The Golden Eagles will take the court again at the Manchester Invite in North Manchester, In. for a three match tournament.
