Golden Eagles sweep Greenville series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -  The Spalding University baseball team swept four games from the Greenville in their four-game SLIAC series. The Golden Eagles improve to 11-8 on the season and 9-2 in conference play.

Game 1
The Eagles got ahead in the second inning able to get a run across in the second getting two hits, and an error on the Panthers defense. Spalding did not stop there getting out to an early lead getting two more across in the 4th. After a leadoff single then an error by the Eagles, Greenville pushed their first run across in the top of the fifth. Spalding put two more runs up in the fifth with a double, a single, and a passed ball. To continue the back and forth scoring the Greenville scored 2 in the top 6th making the score 5-3 Spalding. Both offenses went cold until the bottom 8th when Spalding extended their lead adding 4 runs. Spalding beats Greenville 9-3

Notables: Michael Newsom, Evan Trentman, Eric Meyer and JT Johnson all added 2 hits and combining for 5 RBI's. Jack Parisi earned the win striking out 9 and walking 2. Aaron Blake closed the game pitching 2 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Game 2
Spalding's pitcher Caleb Collins was able to cruise through Greenville's lineup for 6 innings of shut out baseball while the Eagles carried a one run lead until the bottom of the 6th where the Eagles scored 5 runs on 2 doubles, 2 singles and 4 walks. Greenville was able to get two runs after Spalding's big inning. Spalding continued to add runs with 3 in the 7th, and 2 in the 8th. Spalding beats Greenville 11-2.

Notables: Marcus Collins had 4 hits and 5 RBI's. Michael Newsom, Mitchell Langley and Michael Speck each had 2 hits. Caleb Collins earned the win striking out 8 with no walks. Nate Thomas pitched the final two innings with 3 strikeouts.

Game 3
Spalding's starting pitcher, Peyton Hood, shut Greenville down throwing a complete game, giving up only one hit and striking out 8. The Golden Eagles were able to scratch a run in each the 1st, 3rd, and 5th with timely hitting. Spalding beats Greenville 3-0.

Notables: Mitchell Langley and Dryden Schroeder each recorded 2 hits, Michael Newsom added one hit with 2 walks scoring all 3 runs.

Game 4
Greenville started the final game of the series taking the lead early scoring one in top of the 2nd. However, Spalding was able to score their own run in the bottom half to tie the game up. Both teams were held until Spalding scored 2 runs in the 4th, then 3 runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th making it a 8-1 game. Greenville tried to make a late comeback but came up short with runners on base and only scored 1 run in the 7th. Spalding defeats Greenville 8-2.

Notables: Zane Baker and Isaac Lineberry led the team with 2 hits while they combined for 4 RBI's and scoring 4 runs. Zach Vogt made his first start for the Eagles going 6 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 6 hits.
