Women's soccer outduels Webster, 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's soccer team beat Webster, 4-3, on Wednesday night to advance to 2-0 on the season and conference play.

A back-and-forth offensive battle took place at the Spalding Sports Complex as women's soccer faced off against Webster. The Gorlocks were up early with a 2-0 lead until Bailey Whitehead found the back of the net for her first goal of the season cutting the deficit to 2-1. Five minutes later, Ally Johnson netted her first goal on a pass from freshman Baeli Young, tying the score at two-all. Before the half, Webster pulled ahead 3-2 on a tip-in shot that was deflected by the goalkeeper Jordan Schneider.

Heading into the second period, Dori Emig was fouled in the box resulting in a penalty kick for the Golden Eagles. Emig fired her PK past the goalie tying the game at 3-3 in the 51st minute. With 35 minutes to go, a blocked shot from an Emig attempt led to Andrea Hayden eventually looping a ball over the keeper's head to put Spalding in front, 4-3. The SU defense held strong the remainder of the match limiting the Webster offense to one shot to secure the win for the Golden Eagles.

Goalkeeper Jordan Schneider tallied three saves while improving to 2-0 on the season.

The Golden Eagles return to play Saturday, March 20 in conference play at home against Blackburn at 1:00 p.m. ET.
