LOUISVILLE, Ky. – An
Abdoulaye Pam header found the back of the net in the 109
th minute to earn the Spalding men's soccer team their first win of the season, 1-0, in double overtime over the Webster Gorlocks Wednesday night. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 1-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in SLIAC play.
The game was a defensive battle with both teams combining for five shots on-goal through the first 100 minutes. In the 109
th minute, a Webster foul granted the Golden Eagles a free kick from about 75 yards out. Goalkeeper
Danny Hernandez took the kick finding the head of freshman
Ahmadou Gueye, who then headed it over to Pam for the golden goal.
Hernandez, a sophomore from Mt. Sterling, Ky., had an outstanding performance recording four of his six saves on the evening in the second overtime period.
Spalding returns to action Saturday, March 20 for conference play as they will face Blackburn at home at 3:00 p.m. ET.
