Box Score LOUISVILLE Ky. – The Golden Eagles fall to Westminster after a hard fought 5 set match.
In set one, the Golden Eagles fell behind and never recovered. With every effort to close the gap, Westminster answered with a 2–5-point rally where the Blue Jays secured the win, 25-17.
Spalding answered with an early lead in the second set. With back-to-back Westminster kills, the Blue Jays took a lead of 15-12. After a Spalding timeout, the set became neutral until a kill by Samantha Robinson put the Eagles up 20-18. The Golden Eagles were able to defeat the Blue Jays 25-23. With the third and fourth sets evening out one a piece to both teams, the match would go to the fifth set.
Starting the fifth, the Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead and looked to have control after a Samantha Robinson service ace put SU in front 11-7, sparking a Blue Jays timeout. However, Westminster rallied scoring eight unanswered points to take the set and match. The Golden Eagles record is now an even 2-2.
Maggie Purichia led the Spalding attack with 16 kills, while
Hannah Holland and Samantha Robinson each added on 11.
Mya Summers had 43 assists and 17 digs for the match.
Sarah Richards led the back row with 20 digs,
Hannah Holland added 16.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday February 26 in St. Louis, Missouri. They will face Webster at 8:00 PM.
