LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team stormed past Earlham College, 69-57, Saturday afternoon at Columbia Gym. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 4-6 on the season.
Mercedez Moore led Spalding scorers tallying 16 points and 7 rebounds,
Sydney Raque added 13 points and
Natalie Fichter almost recorded a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Spalding jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on back-to-back baskets by
Kamryn McMahon and
Natalie Fichter. SU would continue to increase their lead over the remainder of the quarter to lead 17-10 after one quarter. The Golden Eagles scored the first 11 points of the second quarter capped off by a
Maelyn Ridener three-pointer to push SU's lead to 28-10. Spalding continued to pour in the points ballooning their lead to 27 points on a
Mercedez Moore free throw just before end of the second quarter.
The Quakers began to chip away at the Golden Eagles lead in the third quarter outscoring SU, 18 to 10 in quarter to trim Spalding's lead to 19 heading into the fourth quarter. An Amari Bradford layup and Willow Runyon free throw cut Spalding's lead to 13 points with 1:55 to play, but Raque knocked down a three-pointer on SU's next possession to push the lead back to 16 points and Spalding went on to win, 69-57.
