Hirn Drops Career High 25 in Win Over Panthers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team picked up a win against Hanover College, 94-87. The Golden Eagles advance their record to 2-4 on the season.
 
The Golden Eagles came out victorious against the Panthers at home this past Sunday to advance their record to 2-4. Starting the first period, Hanover would get the first shot off at Benter would get the pull up jumper from the free throw line to give them the 2-0 lead. As the Panthers would lead by three, Maleah Hirn would find some room behind the arc for a dagger three to tie the score at eight. Spalding would take the lead ending the 1st as they lead by one.
 
The Golden Eagles would lead most of the 2nd period as the Panthers would put Spalding on the line as they would shoot 83% to gain 10 points. The Panthers, though tying for the lead, would foul Ariyana Rhodes as she would shoot for two to give the Golden Eagles a two-point lead ending the 2nd. The score would go back and forth in the 3rd as Hanover would take advantage of missed shots and turnovers. The Panthers would tie the 3rd with a last second three ball as the score stays at 54-all.
 
The 4th period would be the highest scoring for both teams as the Golden Eagles would put up 40 points compared to the Panthers' 33. The Golden Eagles would go on an 11-2 run on the Panthers to give them a seven-point lead with seven minutes left. The Panthers would take advantage off of Spalding turnovers and fouls as they would come within one of the lead. Natalie Fichter would tack on to the lead as she hits a dagger three to put Spalding up by four with a minute to go. Hanover would foul in desperation to gain the ball back to only expand the Panthers further from the lead. The Golden Eagles would shoot 93% from the line as they went 15-16 from fouls. Ultimately, the Golden Eagles would take the win, 94-87.
 
Maleah Hirn led the pack with 25 points and 10 rebounds for first double-double on the year as Kailey Reed followed closely behind with 20 points, four assists, and four rebounds while Natalie Fichter added 17 points and 12 rebounds as she shoots 3-4 from beyond the arc.
 
Up next, the Golden Eagles will play Miami-Hamilton at home on Saturday, December 4th with a tip-off at 1:00 pm ET.
