LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding volleyball team topped the Blackburn Beavers in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-21, on Senior Day. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 10-11 on the season and 7-4 in conference play securing the three seed in next week's SLIAC tournament.
In the first set, the Golden Eagles raced out to a 14-5 lead following a
Jayda Branch kill and would cruise to a 25-20 win. Like the first set, Spalding took command early taking 14-8 advantage on a Sam Robison kill. An Alivia Reed service ace would get Blackburn within two points, but the Golden Eagles took five of the next six points on their way to taking the set 25-18. In the third set, Spalding jumped on the Beavers early taking a 10-3 lead following a block by
Hannah Holland and
Kendall Mattison. The Beavers would cut the deficit to four points late, but the Eagles would take the set, 25-19, earning the 3-0 win.
Sam Robison,
Hannah Holland and
Jayda Branch led the Spalding attack combining for 32 kills helping the team hit at a .251 clip for the match.
Mya Summers facilitated the offense dishing out 32 assists, while
Sarah Richards anchored the back row with 16 digs.
Up next, the Golden Eagles host Greenville in their final regular season game of the season. Spalding will host the Panthers Tuesday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
