LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University volleyball team competed over the weekend going 2-1 in their first three SLIAC conference games, including, 3-0, wins over Blackburn and Principia, and a 4-1 loss to Webster.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Friday evening, the Golden Eagles powered past the Blackburn Beavers in straight sets.
Samantha Robison led the Spalding attack with 11 kills,
Cassie Jones,
Maddie Simmons and
Savannah Kruse each finished with nine, while
Mya Summers facilitated the offense connecting on 35 of the Golden Eagles 40 assists. In addition,
Maddie Rosendaul scored four points on four service aces.
Sarah Richards anchored the back row tallying 13 digs, while at the net, Jones finished with one block solo and block assist.
- Saturday morning, the Golden Eagles opened the SLIAC quad rolling past Principia, 3-0. It was Jones again leading attack throwing down 13 kills while hitting .458 for the match. Robison also contributed nine kills for the match while hitting a team-best .471.
Mya Summers had a solid outing passing out 32 assists, while scoring three kills. Sophomore
Haley Just led the defense with 14 digs, while Jones had a team-high two block assists.
- Despite a strong effort, Spalding fell to Webster, 3-1, in their final match of the weekend. Freshman outside hitter
Savannah Kruse led SU offensively with 10 kills, while Jones and Robison finished with eight apiece. Summers finished with an assist/dig double-double totaling 27 assists and 11 digs. Richards led the Golden Eagles back row with 17 digs, while freshman
Gabby Ellis finished with 11.
