GREENVILLE, Ill. – Spalding University junior
Kelsey Phillips raced her way into the record books at the SLIAC Championship becoming the first person in conference history to win the 10,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase at the conference meet.
Phillips, a Shepherdsville, Ky. native, won the 10,000-meter crown Friday evening besting Westminster's Jessica Kuykendall by more than 17 seconds. Phillips ran away from the field in the 5,000-meters Saturday, crossing the finish line in 19:58.58, and dominated the 3,000-meter steeplechase navigating the course in 12:24.08, a full minute faster than runner-up Sabrina Favela of Greenville.
In sprints, senior
Kelsey Hamilton led SU with a pair of seventh place finishes. Hamilton clocked a 13.37 in the 100-meter dash and cross the tape in 27.31 seconds in the 200m.
Haley Nestor raced to a pair of top-10 finishes earning a point in the 400 meters with a sixth place finish and took 10
th in the 200m clocking 28.68 seconds.
Samantha Goble and
Taylor Bent each placed inside the top-10 in the hammer throw. Goble took fifth hitting a distance on 39.73 meters, while Bent took seventh with a mark of 35.12 meters.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action May 9-10 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
