EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University baseball team saw their 2019 campaign come to an end Sunday afternoon falling to Webster, 10-5, in the SLIAC conference championship round. The Golden Eagles finish with a 31-12 record, their second straight season eclipsing the 30-win mark, and SLIAC regulars season championship.

HIGHLIGHTS
Similar to Saturday's game, the Gorlok's jumped out to a four-run lead scoring two runs in the first inning and one run in the third and fourth innings. The Golden Eagles sliced the Webster lead in half plating two runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs,
Zane Baker singled to right center and moved to third on a
Garrett Wilson single to right field. Wilson then stole second to put runners at second and third, and
Evan Trentman hit a two-run single to left center scoring Baker and Wilson cutting the SU deficit to two runs. Aided by a pair of errors, Webster responded with a five-run top of the sixth and added another run in the sixth to extend their lead to eight runs. Spalding scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to get back within striking distance.
Eric Meyer and
Quenton Brownlee were both hit by pitches to start the inning, and
Mitchell Langley drove Meyer in with a single through the left side. Brownlee scored and Langley advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and a
Dillon Sievert groundout brought Langley home. The Golden Eagles needed a rally in the bottom of ninth, but went three-up, three-down to end the game.

Starter
Zach Jones (7-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing four runs, on six hits, while striking out four batters in 3.2 innings pitched.
Garrett Wilson and
Quenton Brownlee led Spalding at the plate each recording a pair of hits. Trentman drove in a team-best two RBIs.
