Golden Eagles take two against Blackburn

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding baseball team earned a pair of win over the weekend rolling past Blackburn, 10-0 and 12-2, improving to 18-7 overall and 8-1 in conference.  
 
GAME ONE 
SPALDING 10 – BLACKBURN 0  
After a scoreless first two innings, the Golden Eagles found their rhythm in the bottom of the third inning scoring six runs. Garrett Wilson had a triple to right field driving in Evan Trentman, Cody Milliner singled to left field to bring in Wilson, and Quenton Brownlee hit a two run double and advanced home on a pair of throwing errors. Spalding kept their foot on the gas. Brownlee scored again in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Evan Trentman came home in a pickoff of Wilson and Eric Meyer hit a two-run homer to cap it off.  
 
NOTABLE STATS
Dillon Sievert (4-0) earned the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles scattering two hits, no runs and striking out five batters in 5 and 2/3 innings pitched. Brownlee and Meyer led Spalding at the plate. Brownlee drove in a team-high three runs going 2-for-4 with a double, while Meyer went 3-for-4 with two runs batted-in and a double.
 
GAME TWO  
SPALDING 12 – BLACKBURN 2 
In the bottom of the second, senior Robbie Dale got the bats cracking for SU in game two hitting a two-run double to right field driving in Zane Baker and Dillon Sievert. The Golden Eagles added eight runs over the next three innings to take a commanding 10 run lead. In the third inning, Brownlee lifted a ball into center field bringing in Milliner on the sacfly. A Trentman double, and singles Wilson and Milliner all brought in a run in the fourth inning. In the fifth a trio of RBI singles by Trentman, Wilson and Meyer brought four runs across the plate. The Beavers took two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but SU answered in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs to make the final score, 12-2.
 
NOTABLE STATS
Jack Parisi (4-0) earned the win limiting the Beavers to five hits and no runs, while striking out five batters in 5.0 innings pitched. Trentman drove in a team-high three runs going 2-for-3 with a double. Dillon Sievert also had a solid game at the plate going 2-for-2 with two doubles.
 
UP NEXT  
The Golden Eagles will be back in action at home Wednesday, April 10 taking on in-state foe Transylvania at 6:00 pm.
