Softball sweeps Principia, 6-5 and 8-0

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Spalding softball improved to 4-0 in SLIAC play with a pair of wins over Principia, 6-5 and 8-0, to move to 17-6 on the season.
 
GAME ONE
SPALDING 6 – PRINCIPIA 5
The Golden Eagles got off to a rough start allowing the Panthers to score three runs, but the SU bats woke up in the bottom of the fifth. Addison Morris got it going with a leadoff double, Christy Davis reached on an error and Stephanie Fries singled scoring Morris to put the Eagles on the board. Molly Wallace then reached on an error to juice the bases and Olivia Carter hit a two-run single to right field to put Spalding on top, 4-3. The Eagles defense held the Panthers in the top of the sixth and added two more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to three runs. Mac Henderson and Davis each singled to open the inning, Jennifer Peffley reached on an error to load the bases, and Ally Klein doubled down the left field line to bring a pair of runs across the plate. Looking to rally, Principia scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fended off the comeback attempt. Olivia Carter (9-4) earned the win in the circle allowing five runs on 12 hits while striking out seven. Carter, Davis, Henderson and Klein led SU at the plate with two hits each, while Carter and Klein drove in two runs apiece.
 
GAME TWO
SPALDING 8 – PRINCIPIA 0
The Golden Eagles defense shut down the Panthers in the second game. Spalding raced out to 4-0 lead highlighted by a Lindsey Hubbard RBI single in the second. SU added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early on the eight-after-five run-rule. Brianna Eatmon got it going with a two-run bomb, Jaycee Head reached on a fielder's choice scoring Addie Morris and Avery Morris scored on a wild pitch to end the game. Chole Skorijia (6-1) took the win for the Golden Eagles holding the Panthers to just six hits and 20 total at-bats.  
 
UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles will be traveling to New Albany, Indiana to play Indiana University Southeast on Wednesday, April 17 at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
