GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding women's basketball team saw their season come to an end, falling to Greenville in the SLIAC championship game Saturday afternoon, 72-66. The Golden Eagles finished the season with a 20-7 record, and won a school record 13 straight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles got off to a good start in the first quarter.
Allison Just hit a jumper with 6:43 to play, giving Spalding a five-point lead, 10-5. The teams exchanged baskets over the next few possessions, but with 1:29 to play and the Golden Eagles up five, the Panthers went on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter with the score at 19-16. Greenville continued their run to start the second quarter, dropping eight points to Spalding's four. With 5:01 to play,
Tse Gahagan stole the ball and hit a layup on the fast break, cutting the Panthers lead to three, 27-24. A few plays later,
Maleah Hirn hit a three to tie the game at 27 with 4:27 to play.
Allison Just took the lead back for Spalding after converting her steal into two points by hitting a layup. Following a small spurt of scoring from both teams, Greenville stole the ball and scored, taking a three-point lead, 34-31, to end the first half.
- In the third quarter,
Alex Martin got a steal and scored on the fast break, cutting the Panther lead to just one point, 34-33. Later, a made free throw from Greenville gave the Panthers a one-point lead 43-42. The next possession, Hirn spilt her free throws as well, tying the game at 43. Spalding ended the quarter up by two, 50-48. Over the first 2:43 of the fourth quarter, the teams exchanged buckets and keeping the score close. Greenville hit a three, giving the Panthers a one-point lead, 53-52, with 7:17 to play. The Golden Eagles found themselves down big after Greenville went on a 12-2 run. With 1:26 remaining, Goeing hit a big three cutting the lead to three, 65-62. Unfortunately, the Panthers managed to control the remainder of the game sealing the win, 72-66.

Allison Just led the team in scoring with 14 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
Tse Gahagan scored 13 points, also adding a steal, and three rebounds.
Megan Goeing and
Alex Martin combined for 18 points, scoring nine apiece. Goeing added a team high five steals and three blocks, while Martin added two steals, six rebounds, and four assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Wesley Woodard had 16 points and two steals. Emily Brandland finished with 12 points, two assists, and four rebounds. Jantzen Micheal scored 11 points, and Morgan St. James came off the bench, getting 19 points and a game high six blocks.
