Spalding falls to #23 Transylvania in four sets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University volleyball team conceded to Transylvania in the second game of a doubleheader. The Golden Eagles lost in four sets Wednesday night, moving to 5-12 for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- In the first set, Spalding started off slow, allowing the Pioneers to jump out to an 8-1 lead. The Golden Eagles fought back to contest the set, led by five Savannah Kruse kills on Mya Summers assists. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Spalding fell, 25-22, to give Pioneers a 1-0 head start.

- Spalding started off the second set much better, taking an early lead and keeping it for nearly the entire set. Cassie Jones played a large role in the second set for the Golden Eagles, accruing three blocks and five kills. Other key contributors of the second set were Samantha Robison (three kills) and Savannah Kruse (two blocks, one kill). Spalding won the second set 25-22.

- The Golden Eagles again started off the third set against the #23 Pioneers strong, keeping the game close. Late in the set, Transy began to pull away, eventually winning the set 25-13. Mya Summers set up the Spalding attack six times, passing five assists and recording a kill of her own.

- In the fourth set, Spalding fought hard. The Golden Eagles held their own against a very talented Transylvania squad for as long as they could. Eventually, however, the Pioneers again pulled away mid-way through the set, winning 25-13.
