LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University volleyball team competed over the weekend going 2-1, taking home wins against Blackburn, Greenville, and Iowa Wesleyan.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- On Friday, the Golden Eagles started the weekend by powering past Blackburn in straight sets. Spalding had a competitive offense with Savannah Kruse providing 12 kills and Samantha Robison gaining nine. Cassie Jones and Morgan Doolin each provided six kills for the game and Doolin led the team with a .556 hitting percentage. Mya Summers had a strong night with 15 digs, 33 assists, and four kills.
- The Golden Eagles fell to Greenville, 3-1 on Saturday morning. They started out strong taking the win in the first set with their last four points being kills from Kruse who finished at 21 kills for the match. Jones was also helping fight for the win with 12 kills and one solo block. The Eagles brought out nine service aces throughout the night, four by Maddie Rosendaul, and two a piece by Gabby Ellis and Haley Just. The Eagles fought hard but narrowly lost in four sets, each set closer than the last, going, 25-19, 16-25, 20-25, 22-25.
-To end the weekend, the Golden Eagles made a comeback against Iowa Wesleyan, winning 3-1. The Eagles started out slow, losing the first set but then powering through and winning the next three, 13-25, 25-23, 25-8, 25-15. The attack was led by Robison and Maddie Simmons each landing nine kills. Mya Summers once again had a strong match with five kills, 23 assists, seven service aces, and 16 digs. The Golden Eagles produced 16 total service aces for the match, three by Sarah Richards, two by Doolin, and one each by Alexis Dircksen, Ellis, Just, and Rosendaul.
