ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Spalding women's basketball team had three players named to the 2018 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-conference team, announced late Friday evening.
Alex Martin, a junior from Louisville, Ky., the group earning SLIAC First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team honors. The guard started all 16 SLIAC games for the Golden Eagles in 2018 tallying 231 points, which ranked fourth in the conference. Martin finished the season ranked fourth in the league in points per game, scoring 14.4 points per contest. Alex also ranked in the top-5 in assists (3rd/76) and assist to turnover ratio (4th/2.1). Defensively, Martin hounded opposing guards forcing 36 steals on the season, the fifth most in SLIAC competition.
Allison Just earned SLIAC Third Team All-Conference honors. Just, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., was second on the team in scoring averaging 10.2 points per game in conference play. Just proved to me one of the league's most efficient scorers finishing conference play ranked fifth in field goal percentage connecting on 49.6 percent of attempts from the floor, while ranking ninth in the conference from beyond the arc making 37 percent of her three-point attempts. The guard also finished the season ranked sixth in blocks swatting 13 shots in 16 SLIAC contests.
Senior Lelanda Matthews was named to the SLIAC All-Defensive Team. The 6-3 center led the conference in blocks swatting 34 shots during SLIAC play. Matthews also contributed heavily on the boards ranking eighth in rebounds, including 70 on the defensive end.
