Women's Basketball Suffers Fourth Straight Loss, 77-59

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team suffers fourth straight loss at the hands of Webster, 77-59, Saturday afternoon at Derek Smith Gymnasium. With the loss, the Golden Eagles drop to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while Webster improves to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in SLIAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles trailed from start to finish in this one. Webster opened the game on a 7-0 spurt over the first 3:38 of the first quarter. SU cut the deficit to three points on a jumper with 27 seconds to play in the quarter. A pair of Jenna Thornhill free throws got the Golden Eagles within one point. However, it was all Webster the rest of the quarter as the Gorloks finished the second quarter on a 28-8 run. SU put together a great third quarter locking down on defense while outscoring Webster 25-10 cutting deficit to eight points, 57-49, heading into the final 10 minutes. The big third quarter seemed to run the Golden Eagles out of gas as Webster pushed their lead back to 18 points at the final horn.

- Alex Martin paced the Golden Eagles with 11 points and four steals. Jenna Thornhill turned in a solid performance scoring 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field, while pulling down seven rebounds. Lelanda Matthews an efficient performance tallying six points and four rebounds in 13 minutes of action.

FOR THE FOES
- Senior guard Kelsey Miller led Webster scoring 20 points while shooting 80% from the field in just 23 minutes of play.

- The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday, January 10 taking on Blackburn College. Tip-off is 6:00 pm EST at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
