LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 5-2, in the first game of their Sunday doubleheader. The win improves the Golden Eagles to 10-8 overall. The loss drops the Fighting Engineers to 9-10 on the season. Robyn Schoen (5-4) picks up the win, while Baylee Sparks was handed the loss.
 
Lindsey Hubbard led the way at the plate yet again, as she went 4-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases, a double, run batted in, and run scored. LeeAnna Hundley went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in. Caroline Hale went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Kaylin Rucker went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Brooke Lamon was 1-for-4 with a double and a run batted in.
 
The Golden Eagles took an early lead, as they scored one in the bottom of the first on the Lamon double. Spalding added to their tally in the second on a two-run home run, courtesy of Hundley. They tacked on another in the bottom of the third, as they got a two-out base hit and another run batted in from Hundley. The Engineers answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on a sac-fly and a Spalding error. The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the sixth, as Hubbard doubled in a run on what was her fourth hit of the game. The Engineers made things interesting in the seventh as they got the tying run to the plate but could not cash in, giving the Eagles the win.
 
The Golden Eagles are back in action later this afternoon, as they take on Rose-Hulman in the second game of two on the day at Holy Cross Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm EST.
