Golden Eagles fly past Highlanders on Senior Day, 83-55

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team won their last game of the season topping MacMurray College, 83-55, Saturday at Derek Smith Gymnasium. The win concludes the Golden Eagles season, they finish with at 13-11 overall record, while going 8-8 in the SLIAC.
 
Four Golden Eagles finished in double-digits, senior Julie Skaggs led the team scoring 11 points in only 16 minutes of action. Dee Dee Sliter, Brandy Hunter and Alex Martin each contributed 10 points each for the Golden Eagles, and senior Maya Hardin helped in the victory with nine points and three steals.
 
SU started the first quarter a little shaky with MacMurray hitting two early threes to go up, 6-0. Answering quick, Spalding went on a 9-3 run to tie the game 9-9 with 4:20 to play in the first quarter. Spalding would go on to end the first quarter on a 9-2 spurt leading MacMurray, 18-11, at the end one. The Highlanders opened the second quarter with a three to cut the lead to four, but that would be as close as it got the rest of the quarter. Spalding continued to expand their lead throughout the second quarter, a three by Brandy Hunter extended the Golden Eagles margin to 19 points hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the score, 43-24, at the break.
 
The third quarter started right where the second quarter left off. The Golden Eagles continued extend their lead pushing it to as many as 28 points with only 3:45 left in the third, 61-33. MacMurray would end the third quarter on a 14-3 run cutting into Spalding lead, going into the fourth quarter trailing, 63-47. The Highlanders would cut SU's lead down to 14 in the fourth, but that would be as close as they would get. The Golden Eagles would go on to expand their lead to 29 points in the forth before winning their final game of the year by 28, beating the Highlanders 83-55.
