LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team wrapped up their season Friday losing both games of a double header at Westminster, 7-1 and 10-6. The Golden
Eagles finish the season with a 22-16 record and 12-9 mark in SLIAC play.
The Golden Eagles struggled to find their offense in the early game falling, 7-1.
Korie Vire led SU at the plate going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Javier Guerra (4-2) suffered the loss allowing four runs, on four hits, while striking out six batters and walking three.
Westminster took an early lead scoring on a passed ball in the second inning, but SU answered in the bottom of the third inning when Vire singled to left field scoring
Jacob Woodruff to knot the game at one run apiece. From there it was all Blue Jays as Westminster score three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to win, 7-1.
SU fell behind following and error filled second and third inning, and couldn't close the gap losing, 10-6.
Bryce Spalding led the Golden Eagles hitter going 2-for-4 and scoring a run, while
Matt Harper drove in a team-high two RBI on a 1-for-4 performance.
Kyle Olliges (4-3) took the loss giving up eight runs, five earned, on five hits, while striking out five batters.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead following a
Kam Bruner fielder's choice that allowed Vire to score. Westminster responded scoring four runs in the second inning, followed by a pair of runs in the third and fifth inning to jump out to an 8-1 lead through five innings. Spalding rallied in the sixth scoring four runs, but couldn't complete the comeback losing 10-6.
