FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Spalding University women's golf team closed their season with a strong showing at the Franklin Lady Grizzly Spring Invite placing second carding a 348-357=705 team score. Host Franklin College won the team medal scoring a 692.
Freshman
Taylor Thompson had outstanding tournament finishing third in the individual standings. Thompson carded 84 in round one finishing the day in a three-way tie for third with teammate
Beth Graham and Transy's Jenna Soderling. Thompson held her place on the leaderboard shooting an 85 on the final day to outlast Franklin's Hannah Starkey by one stroke to secure third place.
Freshman
Beth Graham also had solid performance shooting 84-90=174. Graham was for tied third after 18 holes carding an 84, but slipped three spots following a 90 in the final round finishing seventh overall, marking her second top-10 finish in the last three tournaments.
Megan Shirley finished just outside the top-10 placing tied for 11
th carding 88-89=177. Shirley was 10
th after the first round and slid back to 11
th on the final day. Shirley has continued to improve throughout the spring capping off the season with a top-25 finish at Upike followed by this week's 11
th place performance.
Jordan Strother and
Destiny Calvert rounded out the group both placing inside the top-25. Strother placed 17
th shooting 92-93=185, while Calvert finished 25
th carding 99-105=205.
