LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's basketball team fell to Berea College, 77-62, Tuesday evening at Derek Smith Gymnasium. With the loss the Golden Eagles drop to 1-6 on the season.
Rylan Rowe gave the Golden Eagles the early lead hitting a three pointer. As a team, SU only shot 33 percent from the field in the first half, but made up for it by performing well on the defensive end, holding Berea to just 24 percent from the field. Chris Leon accounted for two of the four steals and added six much needed points off the bench. Nick Trisko also added six critical defensive rebounds to help the Golden Eagles maintain their lead. Berea cut their deficit to three just before the end of the half with a made three-pointer by Terique Miller making the score to 27-24.
Berea carried the momentum into the second half going on a 14-0 run coming out of the break taking the lead, 41-27. SU continued to battle, but struggled to defend Berea's three-point shooters. With seven made threes in the second half, Berea took a 25-point lead with seven minutes left in the game. The Golden Eagles fought back getting within 15 points, but was unable to get any closer falling, 77-62.
Nick Trisko earned another double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, and Rowe led SU with 17 points on the night.
Next, the Golden Eagles will face Iowa Wesleyan University on December 10th at Derek Smith Gymnasium. The SLIAC matchup is set for 3 pm EST.
