Golden Eagles give up late lead to fall to Olivet, 66-63

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Spalding University men's basketball team lost tough fought battle to Olivet College, 66-63, in their final game at the Russ Devette/Holland Sentinel Classic, falling to a 1-10 record for the season.

Sophomore, Rylan Rowe led all scorers earning a season-high 21 points and passing out five assists. Nick Trisko earned his seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles were quick to get their offense going in the first half; after two made three's for Rowe, SU took an 8-point lead at the 10-minute mark. Although SU had the better shooting percentage at 48 percent compared to Olivet's 37 percent, the Comets took better care of the ball only giving up three turnovers during the half. Aaron Washington and Kevin Woodson combined for 19 points helping Olivet tie SU, 33-33, at the half.

The second half opened with a three from Olivet's Chris Chrzan, but was answered by a three for James Turner. Both teams went back and forth with SU maintaining the lead for the majority of the game. The Golden Eagles were up five with 2:35 left to play when the Comets started to make their comeback. After Eric Ewing hit a jumper to cut the lead down to three, the Comets earned a steal and were fouled. Olivet went 4-for-4 from the free throw line during the last two minutes to win the game 66-63.

Next, the Golden Eagles will face Transylvania University on December 31st at 5 pm. The game will be held in Louisville, Ky. at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
