Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Golden Eagles rout Morthland, 84-26

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team topped Morthland College, 84-26, Tuesday evening at Derek Smith Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

After two made three-pointers by Morthland's Kendra Patterson, the Golden Eagles bounced back to take a substantial 27-8 lead in the first quarter. Driving the lane, and points off of turnovers resulted in seven different players contributing to the SU offense in the first ten minutes.

In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles defense held the Patriots to just one field goal while increasing their lead to 49-14. Maya Hardin ended the half with five rebounds, all earned in the second quarter and Alex Martin led SU's offense with 13 points in the first half.

The Patriots continued to struggle offensively shooting 2-for-13 field goals in the third quarter. The Golden Eagles capitalized and pulled away to a 44-point lead. With SU shooting over 55 percent, the deficit proved to be too much for Morthland to overcome. Martin, Brandy Hunter, and Hardin were the offensive leaders for the Golden Eagles earning 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively.

Next, the Golden Eagles will host Eureka College in their first conference game of the season. The game is set for 1pm on Saturday, December 3rd at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
