ELSAH, Ill. – The Spalding University men's basketball team started conference play falling, 65-54, to Principia College Tuesday evening in Elsah, Ill. The Golden Eagles' record drops to 1-3, overall and 0-1 in SLIAC competition.
Senior, Nick Trisko led SU's offense going 13-of-19 from the field, and making all seven of his free throws, totaling 33 points on the night. Trisko also added 11 rebounds earning his third double-double of the season. As a team, however, the Golden Eagles only shot 38 percent from the field versus Principia who averaged 49 percent.
After shooting poorly in the first half, the Golden Eagles trailed Principia 35-23. SU fought to stay in the game, improving their shot, but Principia was able to keep hold of their lead. The Panthers earned 12 bench points to SU's two, while also earning seven more points off turnovers. Although Spalding struggled from the field, the team went 7-for-7 at the line. The Golden Eagles cut the halftime deficit by one, ending the game 65-54.
Next, the Golden Eagles will face Eureka College at 3pm on Saturday, December 3rd. The conference game will take place in Louisville, Ky. at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
