Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Golden Eagles drop second straight

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team dropped their second straight game for the first time this season in a 71-61 loss to Greenville on Saturday at Derek Smith Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles got out to a strong start leading by as many as five in the first period and ended the period up 19-17. The second period went the Panthers way as they ended up taking the lead into the locker room with a buzzer beater at the halftime horn.

The Panthers continued the second half with an advantage leading by as many as seven with less than two minutes to go in the period. A three-pointer by Kim Mingus, who scored a season-high eight points, brought the Golden Eagles within four heading to the final period.

The fourth period did not go the Golden Eagles way as the Panthers got second chance opportunities throughout the final 10 minutes to extend their lead. Spalding got the deficit down to three with 8:00 to play, but went scoreless for the next three minutes allowing the Panthers to extend their lead.

The Golden Eagles couldn't find a stop down the stretch and ultimately lost their second consecutive game. Greenville used 10 three-pointers and 48 percent shooting to earn the win. Spalding grabbed 17 rebounds in the contest but 17 offensive boards for Greenville lead to 23 second chance points, which was the ultimate game changer.

Maya Hardin lead the Golden Eagles with 15 points, and Alex Martin and Mackenzie Myers were also in double-digits.

The Golden Eagles will head on the road to Iowa Wesleyan for a 7:00 ET tip on Thursday January 7 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
