LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team lost a pair of games to Westminster, 5-0 and 5-3 Saturday evening. With the losses the Golden Eagles fall to 11-17 and 8-6 in SLIAC competition.
Kelci Flener (7-7) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, with two strikeouts and two walks in a complete game effort.
Shelby Kilgore had the Eagles only hit of the game, a single to left field in the first inning.
The Blue Jays scored a run in the second inning, three in the fourth inning and a one in the seventh.
In game two, despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Golden Eagles were outscored 5-0 over the next four innings and couldn't catch the Blue Jays down the stretch.
Becca Mouser led SU at the plate going 2-for-3, including a home run and a double, while driving in three runs.
Courtney Miller took the loss falling to 1-4 on the year. Miller gave up five runs, four earned, on 13 hits, while striking out one batter.
SU got on the board in the bottom of the first when Mouser hit a two run homer that scored
Kaylin Rucker. Nevertheless, Westminster scored five unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 5-2 lead. Spalding plated a run in the sixth inning when Mouser tripled to right field bringing in Kilgore, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Up next, the Golden Eagles head to Eureka College to take on the Red Devils Thursday, April 23 at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. EST.
