ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Spalding University softball team fell twice to Fontbonne on Saturday, 1-0 and 9-1. The Eagles now have lost four straight and are 5-11 this year, including 4-2 in the SLIAC.
In the first game,
Kelci Flener pitched a gem, but did not receive any run support, as Spalding was held without a hit after
Shelby Kilgore led off the game with a single. Flener tossed a complete game and did not allow a hit until the final inning, when Fontbonne came through with a double and a single to walk-off victorious.
In game two, Spalding committed three errors in the bottom of the first leading to three Griffin unearned runs and 4-0 deficit after the first. The Eagles got a run back in the second when
Becca Mouser led off with a double and scored on a single by
Kaylin Rucker, but the Eagles were shut down after that, being held to two hits the remainder of the game. Fontbonne scored five more times in the fourth to make it 9-1 ending the game after five innings.
Spalding will be back in action hosting a doubleheader Wednesday, April 1 against Transylvania. The games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. EST.
