LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Spalding University women's track and field team opened the outdoor season with an 8th place finish at the Transylvania Pioneer Invitational.
Katie Suiters earned a pair of top 10 finishes. The freshman thrower took 2nd place in the javelin with a throw of 29.48 meters, and placed 8th in shot put (10.27m).
The Golden Eagles had solid performances in the middle distance events.
Jenna Johnston raced to a 3rd place finish in the 800 meter run clocking 2:27.07, and Rachel Cowles finished 10th running 2:35.48. In the 1500 meter run, Cowles led Spalding with a 5th place finish (5:10.67) and
Kayla Payne finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place (5:18.94).
Krystina Perez cleared 1.47 meters placing 3rd in the high jump.
In sprints,
Carly Ryan placed 11th (1:18.49) in the 400 meter dash, and
Allye Kuerzi placed 19th (31.85) in the 200 meter dash.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday, March 28 at the Hanover Invitational in Hanover, Indiana.
