LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team used another outstanding defensive effort to run past Principia, 71-41. Spalding improves to 18-4 this season, 15-1 against SLIAC competition.
Jessica Guy led the way with 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Kayla Styles added 14 points and nine boards, and
Dee Dee Sliter pitched in with 10 points, including six-of-six from the free throw line. Spalding held a 44-26 advantage on the glass and held Principia to 31 percent shooting from the field.
Spalding came out hot, starting the game on a 10-2 run, including three layups from Guy. The first half lead would grow to as much as 14 after consecutive three pointers by
Brandy Hunter and
Kallie Ash. The Panthers were able to stay in the game, slicing the lead to 11 points, but Spalding pushed it back to 13-points to head to the break leading 32-19.
The Eagles opened the second half with a 14-3 surge bolting to a 46-22 lead with just under 14 minutes remaining. The Eagles were able to cruise from there, as Principia never cut the deficit below 20 for the rest of the game. The lead grew to as high as 31 after
Kelly Coburn followed her own miss for a layup.
The Golden Eagle will be back in action on Monday, February 16th, at Webster at 6:00 p.m. EST.
