LOUISVILLE Ky. – The Spalding women's soccer team remained unbeaten in their last five matches with another shutout victory 4-0 against MacMurray on Thursday afternoon at Champion Trace. The shutout was their sixth of the season, the most since moving into the SLIAC conference in 2009.
The Golden Eagles improved to 7-3-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference action with the win. MacMurray fell to 3-8-0 and 0-4-0 in conference play. The win also moves the Golden Eagles into second place in the conference standings behind Webster. The Gorlocks will be in town on October 21 at 4:00 p.m.
Spalding and
Dee Dee Sliter got the scoring started midway through the first half as Sliter scored her first of two goals on the afternoon. She was able to score on a put back in the box to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Six minutes later
Lauren Locke scored on a header inside the box off a free kick from
Madison Ratchford, putting the Golden Eagles up 2-0.
In the second half Spalding opened up their advantage as Sliter scored her second goal of the game from 20 yards out on a pass from
Hannah Freytag. As the second half was winding down Ratchford added a goal of her own on a throw in from
Demi West giving Spalding a 4-0 advantage and securing the victory their fourth in a row.
The pair of goals from Sliter moved her into a first-place tie with 13 and is now one point behind Lyndi Saccaro of MacMurray for the conference lead. The goal and assist by Ratchford moved her into the top five in points among all conference players.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch on Sunday as they travel to Fontbonne for a 3:00 p.m. start against the Griffins.
